Best Paint Colors For Log Home

Best Paint Colors For Log Home – Happy Friday!!! This week sure flew by! AND once again I feel like I have done NOTHING! Ah! I mentioned in my last post that I didn’t start 2018 well and it seems that productivity remains the same. It remains constant at approximately zero. I love this from time to time but I’m so ready to tackle 2018 it’s driving me crazy! Between snow, travel, and Addie missing a few days of school this week, my to-do list seems to be growing. Oh no, they declared Monday a “digital day” to slow the spread of the flu, which means no school. Again. I love my kids to death, but this mom needs to go back to work!

So today’s post will be short and sweet and honestly I think sometimes pictures speak louder than words SO… Guess what?!? I painted the inside of a house white. Add “shocked emoji face”. I didn’t actually paint it myself, but I chose it as home white. This is huge for this colorful designer. I seriously doubted and second guessed myself a million times BUT I love it. I really want it. And don’t worry! Lots of colors coming soon.

You see, we bought this cabin and it was all wood. From floor to ceiling. Honestly, I love incorporating natural wood tones into my work, but this wood was orange. Like ORANGE, which is super hot and not so awesome. I knew I wanted these beautiful whitewashed hardwoods from Shaw Floors, and once they were installed, the orange wood took a turn for the worse. But I’m still seriously STRESSED about this painting! Definitely to the death. Painting wood is a big decision because once it’s done, there’s no going back! Yes, I know we could repaint it, but it would cost a lot more. I was so stressed that I even had to seek moral support from my amazing designer friend Brian Patrick Flynn. Hmm yeah, being a complete moron and naming it because it’s a bomb. Dot com. ? Seriously, follow her work, her Instagram page and all that jazz. Super beautiful and CRAZY talented designer who created HGTV’s Urban Oasis and HGTV Dream Home. About a year ago he ruined my life by texting me about our kitchen and telling me how much he loved it. I literally think I almost cried. Ha! We then met last summer at a major design event in Atlanta when I was chosen as the designer for a sketch at America’s Mart. Mark and I went to dinner with him that night and met again a few months later in Atlanta. AND I’ve had a crazy, huge designer crush ever since. He is literally the nicest man on planet Earth. We ALWAYS text each other from time to time and that’s what she advised me to do. She also has a GORGEOUS cabin in North Georgia that she converted, so I took her advice and painted IT ALL WHITE…

Note: The bedroom with the green ceiling was not actually the room with the green ceiling, so it will be painted white early next week. We have a lot of retouching so they’ll fix it. There is a fourth bedroom, not shown below, which will have the beautiful Ming Jade ceiling! I will spend most of the summer focusing on renovating the exterior of our Wisconsin cabin. I have big plans and a new paint job is at the top of the list. We’ve been talking about eventually painting it black since the day we laid eyes on it. I like the gray-green color that now stains the board and batten, but it has long since faded over the two summers we’ve been here. It needed a refresh and for us this was the perfect opportunity to take it somewhere darker.

There is something so striking about seeing a dark cabin next to a backyard with lush green trees and evergreens. It’s so simple and basic, but also sophisticated and epic. I wanted this for our cabin but with a green twist. Green became such a theme for us in the cabin that it became the common thread that brought the whole room together. I really wanted to continue the repetition of green tones, to find a dark black with green undertones, or rather a dark green close to black.

Did I mention that WestWisco house painters are rare and hard to find and their schedules are often a year behind schedule? I had no idea. If you want to make a career in the northern forests, you will be in high demand if you are a painter. After reaching out to several painters in the area and being turned down several times, we managed to find a really talented painter and landed on her early June calendar!! He was very knowledgeable and thorough, I feel the cabin will be in safe hands. He will use Benjamin Moore Aura exterior paint, but will sand, grout and repair some moldy areas on the siding before he touches the paint can. BM will then prime the Aura and paint it with two coats. I’m so excited about all the excitement we’re getting from this company.

So I really like this, but I’m worried that it will read as green first and black second, and I want a color that reads as green but also reads as black. Does this make sense? I like this and haven’t quite spoken it yet. Please weigh it.

This color is beautiful and I would definitely consider it iiiiffffffff I wouldn’t want anything blacker. It’s not dark enough.

This is my favorite color, but I have some concerns. Since it has slightly cooler undertones, I’m concerned that it will read more blue than green. What are you thinking?

I also plan to sand and paint the multi-layered floor. I’m already thinking maybe I’m a little crazy, but this is going to be a really big job, but I’m starting to grind and I feel pretty committed to the process at this point. Whatever color I choose for the cabinetry, I know I want a solid gray with red undertones to complement the dark green trim and reddish roof tiles; I’m in no rush to change this.

We will also be adding a new patio set to the terrace which will really start to feel like a combined outdoor/indoor space during the summer months.

Check out my model and compare our current and future cabin. What are you thinking? I think an update could be good for this old place.

Wow. Set! You made really nice comments, so much so that I felt I should finish this post. Choosing exterior paint colors is always difficult, right? I’m lucky I don’t have to worry about trim in this cabin or you’d have a really long mission.

I feel like I know exactly what I want, but choosing the color is so hard because the paint changes and it costs tons of money to paint a building. It’s not one of those things you can just redo, so yeah, I tend to overthink it.

What I want is a black or near black color that looks green in sunlight and looks like a deep black or near black in the shade. Imagine sitting by the fire looking at the cabin and suddenly the cabin you thought was black actually turned green because you caught the right light at the right time of day – that’s what I want. I want it to be a chameleon, but I don’t want it to turn into a super saturated jewel-toned green in sunlight. I want the green undertones to lean towards the cooler side, but I also don’t want them to be too teal; I just want them to cross the line between hot and cold. Is it possible? I do not know. For reference, our cabin is in the woods and on the west side of the lake, so most of the day is spent in the shade. We get sun in the morning when the sun rises and in the middle of the day when the sun is almost directly overhead.
