I’m so excited to share a room with all of you, something I don’t think I’ve ever shared on a blog. It has been a boring brown box for the past 5 years. Finally, there is room for improvement. Our small workout room now has real design instead of just throwing everything at random.

What a change! Last weekend when I was on the exercise bike, I finally decided to tackle this part. Realizing there was paint left over from renovating our basement family room, I pulled out my paint brush.

I didn’t have enough paint for the four walls and the ceiling. I decided to make the back wall a design feature. Gentleman and I added planks of tongue and groove pine that I stained.
I used Varathan’s Aged Wheat color. I mentioned that we were going to do the wood ceiling treatment in our basement family room, so this was a good test run.
When I was working on the design of our small gym, I wanted to incorporate as many features into the space as possible. I’ve arranged and rearranged everything here a dozen times. I decided that the method I originally had would work best.
The only major layout change I made was breaking our closet into two pieces instead of one. This made it easy to watch TV from anywhere.

Once I had everything lined up, it was time to attach the mirror. I originally got this from a local glass company for about $900 – yikes! This was more than I wanted to spend, so I found these glasses online for half the price. I like the look of two mirrors compared to one big mirror.
I forgot how useful it is to have a mirror to check your form. I feel so much better in the last week since I put the glasses on.
Now that I’ve covered all the procedures, it’s time to add some fun artwork. I mr. I teased my kids that I would pose in his bike shorts and hang the big photos all over the room… and they freaked out! 😉

I have to be honest I have never looked for gym wall art before so I wasn’t sure what I would find. The community had 6 tons of fun options!
I often joke that Charlie (our Havanese) is my trainer. In fact, he spends most of my workouts cuddling while I try to do crunches. When I saw these fun prints of dogs lifting weights, I knew we had to incorporate them into the design of our gym.
They made me laugh. Anything that makes me smile while working is a win.
I also chose this “All I want is pizza and abs” poster. Now I think about pepperoni when I do jumping jacks.

This project was very spontaneous and fun. I have to say I really enjoy training here now. It’s great to have a place for everything.
Although I have to say that reflecting the snow between the mirrors and the sun is the most challenging location I have ever photographed. It looks a bit darker and more atmospheric than real life with all the crazy shades.
Our entire family uses this space, so our home gym design works well for us!
