As much as I love our washer-dryer, I know there are a few things that would qualify as “cons” in anyone’s book:
Because the washing machine is small, we can only do a small amount at a time. That means more frequent washing, but that’s fine by us. We do about 3 loads a week. The machine has no agitator, so small loads ensure that our clothes are really clean.
For a load that is washed on a “normal” setting, we can build in drying time. This means that the machine automatically switches to drying mode as soon as the clothes have been washed. These loads take 3 hours to complete. I know that sounds like a long time, but usually I just set it and forget about it. Three hours pass anyway, and my clothes are clean!
Tiny House Appliances
As this machine has dual function, it uses steam to dry our clothes. This means that clothes can sometimes come out still a little damp, but can dry quickly in a few minutes or with a good shake. Steam means that after our clothes dry, they retain any wrinkles while they wait to be folded. So after the dry cycle is over, we need to quickly fold the clothes to ensure wrinkle-free clothes.
They are sold so you don’t have to clean fluff ect as it is ventless. We and other small house residents have found out differently. Once a year we have to remove the top (2 screws) and turn the black part wrapped in the picture below. It can become clogged with lint and affect the dry cycle. We also bought a drain snake to catch as much as we could. It’s a quick 15-minute fix once a year, and it’s not terrible for the convenience of having an all-in-one washer and dryer combo.
It is a front-loading machine with normal, heavy, delicate, temperature controlled and cotton settings. You name it, this thing does it. The drying time varies depending on the size of the load. This thing does exactly what we need it to do in our house, we really couldn’t ask for more. Overall, I have to say I really love my washer/dryer.

Insider spoke with five small home owners about how they assess what they need and don’t need when buying, renovating and remodeling their small spaces.

Monkhouse said that when he designed his home, he had a budget that allowed him to include luxury amenities, including a washer and dryer combination.

Today, she wishes she had chosen a separate washer and dryer. Although the combined appliance takes up less space, Monkhouse says in her experience, the dryer function takes too long to dry her clothes.
Appliances that look like they save space but don’t get the job done aren’t worth it in the end, he said.
Small-home owners should skip air conditioning units and opt for a split unit, which can cool and heat the space, he said.
Split units mount to your walls, but large air conditioning units often take up window space or require major renovations to your home.
Tiny House For Us
The look of the split unit—which is slimmer than conventional air conditioning systems—doesn’t cramp her tiny home style, either.
Tim Davidson, who lives in a tiny house on a private island, said he’s glad he chose a staircase instead of a ladder for his sleeping loft.
Tim Davidson has lived in a 270 square meter tiny house since 2017. Their tiny home has a loft that leads to their bedroom.
When designing the space, he chose a staircase instead of a ladder for a few reasons.

They knew that a staircase would provide greater mobility and safety. If he wants to grow old in his little house, a ladder is unavailable. He wanted his cat Oliver to be able to access every inch of the tiny house.
Since stairs take up more space than a ladder, they optimized the stairs for both storage and seating.
Davidson said that in the future he will skip buying an oven because a deep fryer does practically the same thing.
Now that they have a deep fryer, the oven is used less but takes up a huge amount of space in their kitchen.

“It’s just a waste of space,” he said. “And I hate doing dishes, so I might as well use that space for a dishwasher or something.”

When the couple began designing their tiny two-story house out of shipping containers, the bathtub was the easiest thing to sacrifice because it wasn’t needed—the shower served the same purpose.
The couple, who recorded their journey on Instagram @that_tiny_life_love, made sure every piece of furniture they brought into their home served a purpose.

If an item doesn’t meet these criteria – or make you happy – you should reconsider. Sorting out laundry options is an interesting side note to making our tiny house a reality. It’s one of those aspects of the home that many people take for granted. One thing that stood out in our decision-making process: We didn’t want to rely on driving to the laundromat every time we did laundry.
There are certain parameters we must stay within in order to have laundry facilities. As the house is an exercise in maximizing limited space, we are too small. Even stackable apartment units are too extravagant for this space. We have to stay within the limits of our 30amp electrical system.
We spent a lot of time online looking for the right product and discovered a niche in the laundry world that we didn’t even know existed – combined washer/dryers that use the same drum for both washing and drying. In this product set, we found different sizes/capacity ranges representing several brands.
Reviews from people who have used these devices are mixed and seem to vary widely by brand. Advantages Significant savings on energy and of course space are discussed. Many users have reported that these units wash well but the drying ability leaves something to be desired.
