Roofs For Fairy Houses

Roofs For Fairy Houses – One thing I always wonder: what do fairies make their homes from? Do they appear strictly to be objects of nature? Or perhaps more fanciful and crafted like our modern home? I think the truth may lie somewhere in what I try to include in my own fantasy homes.

This tutorial will show you the method I use to make the miniature plaques that I put in my fantasy houses. It’s a simple process, it takes a lot of time to glue them at home!

Roofs For Fairy Houses

Step #1: Color your cardboard using different colors. I don’t like using just one color because I think it makes the roof look “flat” and unrealistic. Real shingles vary from one side of the house to the other, depending on how much sun or rain they receive. I try to make sure I have light and dark areas on my cardboard. Paint both sides of the cardboard so that the overhanging parts are not repainted.

Step #2: Cut the pieces. This seems simple enough, but again I want to use different small and large pieces to make the roof look natural. Important…. Save the uncut piece to create a series of larger shingles for the top of the fairy house.

Oh, I forgot to paint the side of this cardboard! This just means I need to paint the edges of the roof when finished.

Start at the bottom and work your way up. I try to angle my pieces with the direction of the roof. Pieces towards the ends of the outside corner…

The coin tower is especially prominent at the top. Also use smaller pieces on top so you don’t have any space without a shingle.

Step #4: Using the cardboard pieces you saved, cut them into larger pieces to form the “spine” of the roof. Start at each end of the house and end in the middle. An overcoat like this keeps rain and the elements from splashing under the chute…

Step #5: Using smaller stones, complete any accents around the house. Don’t forget to use right angles here too.

Touch up any areas you need to with paint, sit back and enjoy your work! I hope this guide is helpful and inspires you on your path. And feel free to share photos if you try out your roof!

There’s just something about building a fantastic home that always appeals to me. I think it’s probably because you can use all kinds of items to make them. Let your imagination be free. Old wicker boxes can be transformed into a desert dwelling or a fairytale church. Clocks are perfect for creating secret gardens, complete with beaded topiaries and swings. The Evena lunch box can be transformed into something extraordinary. And the old lamp and its shade……… Well, if you make it, add a plastic flower pot and a door handle; this makes an incredibly large roof. Emir? ?

We built this baby this weekend for a friend who is looking to create her first fairy garden. He wanted a cottage so his fairy tales could continue outside. As the weather here in South Africa doesn’t usually go from one extreme to the other and I know how durable a wooden roof is (you stay in one place), choosing a roof was easy .

Did you know that the recommended slope for a roof is generally between 45 and 50 degrees? A steep slope allows for good water drainage and helps prevent water from pooling on the wood, which can lead to rot and decay. This is why changing shaders is so perfect for this fabulous craft.

The shade I had was bell shaped, but I really wanted the top to be narrower. I don’t know; to me it just seemed more fantastical. So I used wire cutters to cut the top off and pressed it down before taping it with foil tape.

Once happy with the overall shape, the rest of the lampshade was covered with masking tape. The tape helps strengthen the roof and gives the wood something to hold on to.

Take a few strands of coconut fiber and lay them out on a piece of ribbon as shown below.

Wrap the tape to secure the coconut fibers. Do the same thing on the other side. Cut the coconut fibers in half to obtain two strips of fiber or wood as shown below.

I want to cut a whole bunch of them at once, so I have a stash of wood to work with. This is a very complicated matter, so it’s best to do it outside.

Just like a real roof, you need to start at the bottom and work in repeated layers. So start by gluing a strip of coconut fiber to the bottom of the lampshade. Don’t worry if it’s rare; is full
