When my friend pulled me aside and told me there was exciting news… I couldn’t help but mentally flash to the nursery and want to help her! Luckily, her exciting news was a baby on board, and when she found out a few weeks later that she was expecting a boy, the wheels started turning!
Her in-laws have already given the gray coat of Bear Dzelzs Kalnas to the nursery and my friend is a self-confessed color lover! Even with a neutral palette, we were able to bring in variations of color and pattern to make this space warm and cozy, and I love it!
I started by looking for larger pieces that fit the room: a changing table and a crib. This wood-toned changing table was not only the perfect size, but also warmed up the room with its natural wood look.

We found a wooden side table that goes perfectly with this wood finish and is built next to the glider to hold a small gray table lamp. When baby is a little more mobile, this lamp can be moved, but for now it will be a soft light for midnight feedings or bedtime stories. The children’s room is not a very big place, so we chose a smaller bed. Not only does it have clean lines, but it’s also lower than other cribs, which is perfect for my boyfriend.
A glider is also a nursery essential and is surprisingly affordable considering how luxurious it looks. It’s also very small, a far cry from my first nursery tank. It fits perfectly next to the changing table and with the black and white pouf at the feet it makes a comfortable place for mom and baby!
Moving on to room design, my friend loved the idea of vinyl wood! We chose this lovely birch wood vinyl and kept it simple by leaving out the birds and leaves. Remember to clean the walls first to ensure proper adhesion. The vinyl couldn’t be easier to install and adds a great graphic element to the corner.
I’ve always loved this assortment of baby animal photos, and when I included them in my original space vision board, my friend LOVED them. It became part of our theme and we tried to bring in other animals as much as possible.

It’s a small detail, but I love this cute bear wallpaper from Dwell that I put on the back of the children’s bookshelf. Storage was important to my friend, so the included toy box at the bottom of this bookshelf was perfect. I also brought that cute polar bear and I can imagine the baby learning to stand on it!
The original curtain I chose for the room was plain white, but I’m so glad it wasn’t available because the black curtains with black arrow details and industrial curtain rods complement the room so well.
My friend said she always wanted a rug in her nursery, so we put in this soft textured gray “sheepskin”.
