Best Garden Tool Carrier

Best Garden Tool Carrier – Caring for a kitchen garden is not the same as working on a farm or even with a row garden.

The same applies to the necessary garden tools. We are not talking about heavy machinery or large equipment here. You don’t need a huge tiller or backhoe to turn soil into a raised bed. Once you’ve placed the dirt in your garden, you’ll only need a few hand tools.

Here are some of my favorite and most used tools in my garden tool caddy tools that are sure to help novice gardeners succeed, tools that the masters swear by.

Now let’s see how best to use these items in the kitchen garden. I’ll give you some recommendations in case you’re buying for yourself or another gardener.

Since ancient times, gardeners have debated whether it is better to wear gloves or feel the soil with your bare hands. I have super dry skin, so I like to protect my hands with garden gloves. It’s also a good idea to wear gloves when handling weeds or certain plants, such as okra, that can irritate the skin.

My favorite gloves are by Bamboo, and I love them because they hold up really well, are flexible around the wrist, and protect my fingers from thorns and spines through the rubber palm – all without making my hands sweaty and feeling gross. They are inexpensive and come in three different sizes.

These gardening gloves are cool and comfortable thanks to the breathable knit lining and flexible rubber palm coating.

Dibbers are my favorite tool for planting garden seeds because they make nice, clean holes where they are needed. The dibber I use most often has inches marked on the side to help with spacing and to show how deep to bury the seed. Most seeds don’t need to be buried that deep, especially small seeds like lettuce and radishes, so a dibber ensures that something is planted at the optimum depth for germination.

This short video shows the different types of gravel and how to use them in the garden. (Can you tell I’m collecting?)

I have a wooden planting ruler that marks centimeters and millimeters and every centimeter has tiny holes for planting seeds. Watch how I use this ruler to plant spinach in this short video.

Other spacing tools you may find useful are multi-hole drills to help you evenly space the seed holes and seed in a straight line.

The green tools in the picture above are seed dispensers. You can adjust the dial based on the size of the seed sown, so the feeder only puts out one seed at a time (in theory, at least; mine often has two or three). The red and white tool is a seed syringe. Any of these tools can be useful if you have arthritis in your hands or have trouble separating tiny seeds.

Take the guesswork out of seed spacing with this handy 12″ ruler made from English beech wood. It features extremely useful 12 seed holes, metric and imperial graduations and printed plant spacing guides.

I prefer no-till gardening methods, which means I cut at ground level when I pull the plants out so as not to disturb the soil. But before I plant anything new, I like to remove debris (old leaves, pebbles, snails, etc.) from the top of my bed and smooth the surface. Keeping the soil free of debris is an important step in organic pest control.

Best Gardening Tools In 2024: A Lovely Edit Of Equipment & Tools

These little rakes from the store or from Sneeboer are perfect for preparing the soil for the plants and giving them the flat, clean surface that the plants like.

I make quite a mess in my own garden, but after we install beds for my clients, there is soil everywhere. It’s hard to show off a brand new garden when there’s dirt on every surface! He sweeps the edges of the beds and the stepping stones with a small hand broom to clean up after me.

This little gem is like three tools in one. It’s basically the swiss army knife of plants. A spike helps break the ground easily, which is especially good when working on harder ground. There are measurements on the side to help you know how deep to plant and even a small pruning saw for cutting a stem or a string.

I love how easy it is to dig a little hole in my garden with my hori hori without disturbing neighboring plants to transplant seedlings or herbs. (“Hori hori” is Japanese for the digging sound.) I also use the spike to make a furrow in the ground when planting beans.

Honestly, if you have good hori hori, you don’t really need a trowel or small shovel.

With its serrated, razor-sharp blade, this tool is suitable for digging or cutting through roots and tough soil. The knife is made of high-quality steel with an ash wood handle. To maintain the tool, clean it after use and store it dry.

I recommend having at least three different pruning shears. The first and most important pruner in the kitchen garden is the needle-nosed pruner, with which you can get inside the plant and cut off exactly what you want and harvest it carefully.

The second is a larger pruner that can be used on really large plants or for cutting through thick stems.

It’s also a great idea to have a good pair of precision pruning shears to keep nice and sharp for cutting vines and stems.

There are few things more rewarding in the garden than filling a harvest basket with things you just cut from your garden.

I keep getting asked about my harvest basket. I bought mine from El Paso Import Co when I was in Houston, but it is no longer available. I have a few more cart deals on Amazon.

A steel trough or some kind of tool holder will store your favorite garden tools when they are not in use. No need to hide this tank in a garage where your tools will rust; want to display.

Another tool storage option is a tool bag or tool belt that you can hang and keep all your tools safely inside.

Consistent watering is the key to success in the kitchen garden. If you don’t have a built-in irrigation system, you’ll need to water by hand if it hasn’t rained. I love this extra large watering can from Williams Sonoma or this Haws watering can from Shop Terrain.

If you’d prefer to use a hose, this Terrain Heritage Garden Hose is extremely durable and comes in a fun range of colors. This push-button nozzle fits a traditional garden hose for convenient watering.

This pack includes our favorite garden tools, including a hori hori knife (which is basically a knife, a saw and a digging tool all rolled into one), a hand blade rake, a router, bypass pruners, a dustpan and broom set, jute rope and 10 free zinc hairpins.

This is one of the many lies we tell ourselves as gardeners. Then we double it, or – in my opinion, even worse – we leave spaces where there are no plants.

This is where plant labels, plant tags and plant markers come in handy. Not only can they fulfill a very useful function in our garden rooms, but they can also bring a little personality, even charm. (Here I collect my favorites.)

Vines such as tomatoes can be tied to the trellis with twine. Made from natural fibers such as jute, twine is strong enough to hold plants securely without damaging the delicate vines. Likewise, twein can help stake and support large bushy plants such as peppers if they support a lot of heavy fruit.

When planting, you can stretch twine between two stakes and create your own planting line to help you work in a straight row. When growing peas, you can run back and forth across several rows to pick up the small tendrils as they grow.

This tool kit includes a copper-plated transplanter (a great tool for removing tap-rooted weeds), copper-plated pruning shears, a copper-plated hand rake, a planting line with jute twine, a moisture meter, a thread feeder, and copper-plate plant tags.

The garden mesh fabric is strong and specially made for protection against pests. Honestly, I also just bought tulle fabric from a fabric store and used it with great success.

You can find garden netting, garden netting, and netting at your local garden center (or visit your nearest fabric store). These are simple physical barriers that let water, sunlight and air in, but keep pests out – and you’d be surprised how effective they can be. The key is to use them from the moment you plant the seeds or seedlings.
