Its summer makeover is complete with new storage, counters, fresh paint and of course a new LG washer and dryer with all the extras. With the help of The Home Depot, her laundry no longer feels like a chore, and she’s here to share her before-and-after experience, as well as some of her favorite features of her new appliances.
One of the most used areas in our home is the laundry room. There was no storage and the appliances only did the bare minimum for our laundry maintenance needs. Our laundry room opens into our kitchen and living room and seeing it in such a sad state was a daily reminder that our family’s needs were not being met. We decided to tackle our laundry room this summer and create a laundry room space that feels like an extension of our home.

How To Store Home Appliances: Tips From The Home Depot
To appreciate how far our washing machine has come, you only have to look at the back. You won’t believe it’s the same place, trust me!
We started our washing machine search by visiting The Home Depot online. We used the site’s filters to help us choose a washer and dryer that fit our family’s needs. Since our laundry room is small, the side-by-side arrangement gives us more space, plus it gives me a small counter top to keep my daily laundry essentials and a place to fold clothes.
I have fallen in love with the LG High Efficiency Front Load Washer and the LG High Efficiency Front Load Dryer. The fingerprint resistant black stainless steel finish looks gorgeous and I felt that using a darker color would help ground our space.
Home Depot has videos on its website that share information on how to measure new appliances. This was very important because our area is small. We visited the devices in store and loved how they looked plus all the features!
Types Of Washing Machines
LG washing machine has several cycles that help in washing clothes easily. I often use this laundry cycle for my family. Ideal for allergy bedding and clothing. I use this cycle on my son’s clothes when he plays outside in the grass. The cycle helps her clothes get extra clean. I also like the sanitary cycle for my husband’s work clothes and the hand wash for my more delicate clothes.
I also love LG’s amazing Tub Wash feature, which cuts wash times down to 20 minutes on larger loads. No more hours of waiting for a load of laundry, done! Let’s just say, my favorite feature of the LG dryer is the steam option! I use the Steam Fresh cycle on shirts, duvets and bedding. I’m also a fan of the freshen-up cycle; I used this feature a lot this summer on my son’s swimwear. He swims every day and this feature keeps his swimwear and towels fresh.
The ordering process and the delivery process were also very easy. The delivery guys installed our new washer and dryer in record time and made sure everything was working properly before they left. With our new washer and dryer in place, I was inspired to refresh the rest of our laundry room and finally create a space where laundry no longer feels like a chore.
Our kitchen has subway tiles and we decided to bring the same look to the laundry room using Deltile Restore Bright White tiles. These tiles are a smaller version of our kitchen floor tiles and fit the small footprint of our living room perfectly.

This was our first tiling project and we were a little nervous. Fortunately, a Home Depot store associate was able to help us select the right materials needed to complete our project. We also installed floating shelves above our washer and dryer to provide additional storage space. We have been without a countertop in our washing machine for years and it is a pain. Socks kept disappearing behind our washer and dryer. When the installers moved our old washer and dryer, it was embarrassing to see all the lint and clothes left behind by the machines!
Using PureBond birch plywood that we cut to size at Home Depot, we were able to DIY a countertop for our space. I wandered around the wood flooring department to find the perfect stain color. I found a natural wood sample that I liked and used it to help me choose the perfect Varathane stain. The natural stain was great and helped bring out the beauty of the wood. As a bonus, it dries in an hour! I wanted the room to feel light and open, so I painted the walls Swiss Coffee by Bahr. I also applied another coat of fresh white paint.
I love my new laundry room and love my new appliances. The LG washer and dryer in our laundry room really made a difference! I love that our space feels big and bright. I also love all the storage we have now. Laundry is no longer a chore. The room is now a place I enjoy. Plus, since the laundry room is also how our guests enter the backyard patio, it’s no longer an embarrassing eyesore. Such a good feeling!

After living in our current home for almost 2 years, I finally decided to take some time out and fall in love with our laundry room. My only regret is that it took me so long to get to it!
