It feels like a while ago that we started planning our master bedroom and closet renovation. We started all the plans last March and the entire renovation took about seven months. One of the things we were most excited about was outfitting this master closet, specifically moving the laundry into the closet for easy access, quick folding, and to save space. We’re excited to partner with The Home Depot on today’s post to share the process and space.
When we moved in, the laundry room was located in its own room off the kitchen and dining room. It was small and got the job done, but due to the awkwardness of the room it quickly became a dumping ground for everything we didn’t know what to do with. The old washer and dryer units were placed side by side so the top was always full of clothes, which I know is horrible.
When we decided to extend the dining room and take down the wall separating the dining room from the laundry room, we thought the best place for the new units would be the master bedroom. We’ve always been known to leave clothes in the dryer, so we thought having a washer and dryer in the closet would encourage us to fold and put away clothes faster, but also allow us to expand the dining area of course.

If you missed our master closet earlier this week, check it out here. We designed the cabinetry around the laundry room, so it’s only right that we highlight the stars of the post first: the LG High Efficiency Front Load Washer and Dryer. Both are large units that were easy to stack with the LG Stacking Kit. We were able to arrange an installer with Home Depot, so everything could be installed on site once the units were delivered.
The washing machine has 12 wash cycles and you can preset your favorite laundry so it’s quick and easy to throw in loads of laundry. One of the things people warned us about putting the washer and dryer in our closet was noise concerns, but we had no complaints. The washer and dryer are so quiet that several times I thought I forgot to press start. That is good.
It was important to us to make sure we had room for the stackable units but without compromising storage space. It was great to have a laundry room to the right with carts and all the basic laundry items stored in baskets for easy access. We wanted to keep things simple and neat. A few of Rob’s sweaters and pants slide into the laundry room directly above the baskets, with his sneakers and boots nearby. This helped keep everything tidy by keeping colors coordinated and organized by style.
To the left of the washer/dryer, there was just enough space left for an iron and ironing board. I love that everything has its place and there is not a lot of clutter. We added a few more baskets at the top to store extra hangers, dryer sheets, etc.
Cozy Farmhouse Laundry Room
The older we get, the more we enjoy our household items. When we decided to combine the laundry room and closet, we knew we had to finally try one of the iRobot vacuums. We ordered the Roomba 960 with Wi-Fi and we can’t believe how convenient this little device is. It’s small in size so it fits perfectly on a docking station under one of the lower shelves and we can control it directly from our phone with the app. It was a game changer.
Here is a summary of the beautiful lighting fixtures we decided to install in the closet. We knew we wanted chandeliers and we thought that with the vaulted ceilings it would really lift the space, but so many of the inspiration photos I found for closet chandeliers felt very ornate and traditional. It was very exciting when we found this one by Mitzi on the Home Depot website. We were immediately sold on the circular lighting style, as it matches the rest of the lights in our house, and I thought the brass bump/flower detail was so pleasing. It definitely adds a little whimsy to the space and we love it!
So what do you guys think? Do any of you have laundry in the closet? Would you try it? Our contractor said that many new builders are now designing their homes with the laundry in the closet to save space. All amenities can’t be beat!

Savannah Kokaliares of Classy Clutter faced this problem at the beginning of summer vacation when her old washer and dryer broke down. Her kids use the pool a lot, so she wanted something that was permanent. Savannah did some research and with a little help from The Home Depot, she found the perfect laundry room for her home.
When our washer and dryer went out, it was a bummer. That’s the last thing we wanted to worry about at the start of summer, especially when kids were in and out of the pool with a million towels every day.
